bronze, paper and hear ...

Lilli Byrums sculptures form a statement in the landscape, both when they are placed in the nature, in public places or in private homes. They tell us about myths and symbols, the mystery, which characterize this artist. Her pots in bronze are so soft and feminine that they defy the stern nature of the bronze. They have to be studied both as whole entities and at close range because only when you are very close it is possible to see the subtle details. The straight lines and sharp expressions are also a part of Lilli Byrum?s artistic language. The bronze appears enthrallingly beautiful in her work.

But bronze is not her only way of expression. Flax and paper are also important materials for Lilly Byrum. Her characters are disturbingly drawn out sculptures, which are modeled in flax pulp and wire. They express her peculiar way of looking at people who unconsciously show their feelings in their body language. There are humor and irony in these figures. Look at the man sitting on the bench with his `after work beer`, or at the girl whizzing down the hill on her bike. What a speed! Other characters fight the demons of their minds or lose themselves in thoughtfulness and melancholy as the figure sitting alone outside the group.
